Today, I met with Elisabeth Werner, an Austrian economist and senior official of the European Commission, who has been Director-General of DG AGRI – the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development – since June 2025.
I presented her with the current challenges facing European beekeeping, particularly the insufficiently effective work of the Honey Platform. I am pleased that she showed understanding and promised to help address these issues.
Even more encouraging is the announcement that the European Union will launch a unified campaign promoting European food, with honey playing an important role.
We can be happy and proud that the idea behind our “Buy Local Honey” campaign is now expanding to European food as a whole – under the umbrella of the European Union.
This is an important recognition of our work and proof that a good local idea can cross national borders and become a European story.
