The Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association (ČZS) is hosting two separate international meetings for two important European projects with exceptional international participation at Brdo pri Lukovici between August 26 and 29, 2026. High-level representatives from the agricultural sector, along with numerous foreign experts and beekeepers, are expected to attend, confirming the immense importance and broad impact of both meetings at the European level.
The first international meeting takes place under the BEEXPERT project, which is holding its first annual meeting on August 26 and 27. The project aims to establish specialized advisory services and educational frameworks for beekeepers across the EU, with the Slovenian Public Advisory Service in Beekeeping serving as a leading example of best practice. The first day’s program includes internal meetings and a round table on honey bee nutrition and beekeeping featuring international experts, while the second day features presentations on apitourism, honey bee lifespan, and innovations in the sector.
The second international meeting, taking place from August 27 to 29 in co-organization with the European Beekeeping Association (EBA), represents the final event of the B-THENET project (Horizon Europe). This project brings together 18 partners from 14 countries with the goal of bridging the gap between science and practice. On Thursday, August 27, there will be a lecture by Dr. Fani Hatjina on the Tropilaelaps mite and a field workshop on Varroa monitoring. On Friday, August 28, lectures on stressors and invasive hornets (Prof. Dr. Dirk de Graaf and Dr. Karen Power) will follow, alongside the presentation of the “101 Practices” manual, a policy dialogue on counterfeit honey under the auspices of BeeLife, and a field visit to Koper regarding the management of the invasive oriental hornet. The meeting will conclude on Saturday, August 29, with an all-day technical excursion focused on Slovenian beekeeping traditions.
