STATEMENT FOR THE MEDIA
HISTORICAL DAY: THE EUROPEAN BEEKEEPING ASSOCIATION IS ESTABLISHED IN BELGRADE
Due to numerous problems in the beekeeping sector of Europe, primarily regarding the huge percentage of fake honey on the market, European beekeepers decided to form the European Beekeeping Association, in order to adequately fight before the competent authorities to save beekeeping, which is endangered. In addition to beekeepers, honey consumers are also at risk, as well as European agriculture, as it is threatened by mass abandonment of beekeeping by disappointed beekeepers, which would lead to a drastic reduction in the number of bees and yields in agriculture due to reduced pollination by bees. Uncontrolled poisoning of bees with pesticides makes a big contribution to the decrease in the number of bees, and it is necessary to introduce additional types of support to beekeeping.
The Founding assembly of the European Beekeeping Association (EBA) will be held in Belgrade on February 10th., 2024 at 3 p.m. in the Ceremonial Hall of the Administrative Building of the Belgrade Fair.
Associations that joined the EBA from Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Ukraine, Lithuania, Malta, Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Srpska… are attending the Founding Assembly.
The presence at the Founding assembly was confirmed by Mr. Ellmann Torsten – president of Deutscher Imkerbund e.V. from Germany as a representative of all beekeepers in the German-speaking area, Mr. Georgi Todorov Tyutyundzhiev from Bulgaria and Mr. Andrii Bazhyn from Ukraine, who will attend the Founding Assembly as observers and after its completion make a decision on accession.
It is expected that the headquarters of the EBA will be established on the territory of the EU, where the biggest fight for the rights of beekeepers and consumers will be fought.
The European Beekeeping Association will actively cooperate with all beekeeping organizations in Europe, supporting all activities of the World Beekeeping Federation “Apimondia”, on the improvement of beekeeping, while pointing out the local European problems that we have to solve at the local European level.
We invite the media to follow this important meeting for the whole European beekeeping.
Accreditation of journalists is not required, we expect you to come at the indicated time.
After the Founding Assembly, the press release will be published in English on the website www.spos.info
