I had a working meeting with the National Coordinator for Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy, Ms. Verce Micevska. At the meeting, we discussed the state of beekeeping in North Macedonia, the problem of the sale of counterfeit honey in North Macedonia, the activities of the Union of Beekeepers’ Associations of Macedonia, as well as the membership of the Union in the European Bee Association.
I introduced her to the initiatives for branding Mariovski honey and Pelisterski honey as honey with geographical origin from the Pelagonia region, as well as chestnut honey from Belasica.
The meeting resulted in an initiative to strengthen the control of inspection services in retail markets, as well as increased control of honey when imported into North Macedonia, a very important tool for combating counterfeit honey.
