The European Beekeeping Association supports the efforts of Slovakia to lodge an action for annulment before the Court of Justice of the European Union against the Regulation (EU) 2026/1388 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 June 2026 on plants obtained by certain new genomic techniques and their products, and amending Regulation (EU) 2017/625“ and supports the initiatives of national and international organizations joining this legal action.

The European Beekeeping Association calls upon the competent ministries and institutions of the EU Member States to support, within their respective remits, the filing of the action for annulment against the aforementioned regulation. Unregulated modifications to plant genomes can unpredictably alter the composition of nectar and pollen, directly endangering the health and reproductive capacity of bee colonies. By disrupting natural food chains and introducing potential toxicity to insects, these changes pose a severe threat to ecological stability and overall biological security. Moreover, by abolishing mandatory GMO labeling, the regulation undermines market transparency and strips consumers of their fundamental freedom of choice.
