The innovative experimental bee cage, “BeeLab Testing Cage”, developed
by the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Dr. Slobodan Dolashevic, was
awarded the Bronze Medal at the World Beekeeping Awards (WBA) during
the Apimondia 2025 World Beekeeping Congress and Exhibition in
Copenhagen, Denmark.
This remarkable innovation, unique in the world, was selected from
over 300 applications from 36 countries.
The “BeeLab Testing Cage” is a laboratory cage for bees that supports
a wide range of research applications, including studies on nutrition,
genetics, toxicology, pesticide impact, lifespan, temperature effects,
and many other factors.
The uniqueness of this cage lies in its easy adaptability to different
experimental needs, its variable volume, and a feeding module that can
be adjusted according to researchers’ requirements. It also features a
unique system for removing dead bees without opening the cage, using
magnets. This provides a foundation for the standardization of
laboratory bee experiments in cage studies.
We congratulate Dr. Slobodan Dolashevic on this invention and high
recognition, and we are confident that the cage will soon be adopted
worldwide, advancing future research in apiculture.
