Bee Stings and Pollination: The webbing on a watermelon, those brown, rough patches, is often the result of bee pollination. When bees pollinate the watermelon flowers, they sometimes leave tiny scars from where they’ve touched the fruit. These scars develop into webbing patterns as the fruit grows. The more webbing a watermelon has, the sweeter it tends to be, because extensive pollination typically indicates that the fruit has received plenty of nutrients. So, bee activity directly contributes to both the sweetness and the unique appearance of the watermelon!
