The Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association has today sent 1 jar of Slovenian honey with a protected geographical indication. We sent the honey to the EU Member of Parliament, Mr. Petar Agius, who collects honey from all EBA member states. The recipient of the honey will be the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen, to whom the EU Member of Parliament will hand it over in mid-December.
The European Beekeepers’ Association – EBA would like to inform the EU Commissioner that as the EU Commissioner he is lucky that we, the EBA members (30 countries), have given him real honey, but unfortunately half of Europeans are not so lucky, because according to official EU Commission data, 46% of honey on the market is counterfeit. We want the EU Commissioner to realize that the problem is serious and to immediately speed up all procedures to remove counterfeit honey from the European market.
