Yesterday the European Beekeeping Association (EBA) representatives met online with the representative of the National Federation of Beekeepers of Portugal (FNAP).

We had a friendly, productive and informative meeting with the National Federation of Beekeepers of Portugal represented by Mr. João Simões Cristovão (Associação dos Apicultores do Litoral Centro), a member of the FNAP Supervisory Board.

The EBA was represented by Biljana Tomić, Secretary General of the EBA and Tetyana Vasylkivska, Vice President of the EBA (Ukraine).

Biljana Tomić, Secretary General of the EBA, reported on the EBA Statute, current activities of the EBA at the moment of the Association’s formation. Ms. Biljana spoke about the tasks set by the EBA.

Tetyana Vasylkivska, Vice President of the EBA (Ukraine), outlined the main goals of the EBA and ways to achieve them. Ms. Vasylkivska emphasized the importance of joint efforts of European beekeepers’ associations in addressing the main challenges that European beekeepers are facing today. And it is the EBA that is the unifying beekeeping platform where the main tasks of the European beekeeping community are outlined and where each EBA member will find answers to important issues of preservation and development of beekeeping for their country and for the common good of European beekeepers.

Ms. Tetyana also outlined the main mission of the Scientific Committee – to maintain high standards of quality and safety of beekeeping products in Europe. Among the EBA’s goals is the continuous fight against counterfeit honey.

For his part, Mr. João Simões Cristovão spoke about beekeeping in Portugal, the composition of the National Federation of Beekeepers of Portugal, the main problems and ways to solve them for Portuguese beekeepers. The National Federation of Beekeepers of Portugal (FNAP) was founded on July 10, 1996. FNAP consists of 44 beekeeping organizations from all over the country, including cooperatives, associations and producer groups. Protecting the interests of Portuguese beekeeping at home and abroad, preserving the economic component of the activity, and protecting a decent and quality life for all beekeepers are the goals of the National Federation of Beekeepers of Portugal.

In general, the participants of the meeting exchanged interesting information and expressed their readiness for further contacts and meetings.

EBA invites all associations from Europe to contact us and schedule meetings, review common capacities and agree on future cooperation.
Only united and together can we work in the interest of bees, beekeepers and consumers of our beautiful Europe.
